A demonstration is taking place in Bournemouth Square on 11th September from 5.30pm in order to bring attention to the following calls for action:
- End racial profiling – scrap section 60
- Justice for BAME staff in NHS and care homes
- Decolonise the curriculum
- Stop turning back refugees – they are welcome here
The demonstration has been called by Stand up to Racism Bournemouth Christchurch & Poole, BLMUNITY Bournemouth and BLM Christchurch, and is supported by UCU BU.
The groups have released the following statement:
As the trial of the racist cops who killed George Floyd begins in the USA, police violence against young black men continues with the shooting of Jacob Blake. In the U.K. the use of Stop and Search under section 60 of the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994 is being used to target black people who are 30 times more likely to be subject to Stop and Search than white people in Dorset. At the same time children are dying in the Mediterranean and in the Channel because of racist laws that close the doors of the UK and Europe to those fleeing war, persecution, and famine. We say let them in!!!

There will be several speakers at the demonstration, including our own Marian Mayer, so come along and support the event.
Any questions about the demonstration can be directed to bcpsutr@gmail.com.
