BU UCU Branch Annual General Meeting – Calling Notice

Date & Time:   Monday 22 June 2026, 13:00
Location: Teams (Outlook invite)

Dear Members,

You are warmly invited to attend the Bournemouth University UCU Branch Annual General Meeting (as outlined in the  BU UCU Branch Rules). This is your opportunity to have a say in how the branch is run, to stand for election or nominate others to officer roles, and to submit motions to shape our local campaigning and bargaining priorities.

Important Dates:

  • Deadline for nominations and motions: by 5pm on Wednesday 3rd June 2026
  • AGM: 1pm, Monday 22nd June 2026 (calendar invite already sent to all members)

Agenda (provisional):

  1. Welcome & Chair’s Report
  2. Secretary & Treasurer Reports
  3. Elections for 2026-27 Branch Committee
  4. Selection of delegates for regional and congressional UCU meetings
  5. Motions from Members
  6. Any Other Business

Call for Nominations:

We are seeking nominations for all branch officer and representative roles. The role of BU UCU is to set, protect, and maintain working conditions and is a negotiating body recognised on campus alongside our sister union, UNISON. Please find a list of roles that will be of interest to you and that you might wish to stand for:

All roles attract Facilities Time that is registered on WAMS/workload planning. Roles run from 22 June 2026 to the 2027 AGM. External training is available for Officers/Reps and additional time off is allowed to undertake said training. Where travel is incurred, expenses are paid.

Interested in standing for a role?

Please complete the simple nomination form (download to have your own copy). Get it signed off by two supporters (from other faculties is good). Submit to The Returning Officer for 26/27 southern@ucu.org.uk by 5pm Wednesday 3 June 2026.

In the case of two or more nominations for a role, nominees are invited to say a few words at the AGM on 22 June 2026 as to why they are standing, and a collegiate vote will be taken.

Hesitant and want to know more?  Contact Lyle Skains, Tilia Lenz, or Rosie Read for a Teams chat.

Submitting Motions:

Members may submit motions for debate at the AGM. These should:

  • Be clearly titled
  • Begin with a brief “This Branch Notes…” section to outline context
  • Follow with a “This Branch Believes…” section to explain your position
  • Conclude with “This Branch Resolves…” to outline the action you wish the branch to take

You can refer to this guide for examples and tips. Please send motions to UCUBUoffice@bournemouth.ac.uk by 3 June.

We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible at the AGM. It’s your union—help shape what we do next.

In solidarity,
BU UCU Exec Team
